The World of
Chemistry is a series of 15 experiment worksheets looking at how chemistry effects our
lives. The ideas here include emulsions, separating things, acids, and making electricity.
Each has instructions, an investigation page and teacher's notes.

Chemistry demonstrations (teachers of age 14-18)

- Make an alcohol breathalyser to demonstrate the reduction of dichromate.
- Add acid dropwise to milk of magnesia – the pH drops and then rises again. Good use
for a pH sensor, this one. See the Acid Base Demonstration Show the dramatic fluorescence
of chlorophyll in red light.
- Make ‘mystery putty’ using glue and starch. What does this teach?
- Show the oxidation - reduction of indigo carmine.
- Make ‘slime’ using polyvinyl alcohol
- Show the effect of surface area and reaction rate by lighting a cloud of flour.
- Introduce acid and bases using this series of ‘water-wine-milk-beer’
transformations.

- Do an expt and put elements in their places to learn about the periodic table.
